*Nearly, but not quite - this vase is a functional second*
This vase has some very small cracks in the pink porcelain layer on the surface of the vase, which happened in the final firing. This doesn't affect the functionality of the vase.
A minimal, patterned handmade vase, in which the flowers sit behind a flat geometric plane. These work perfectly with a single stem, a small posy of flowers, or as a stand alone piece.
These vases were designed to sit well on their own, and also look great in a pair or as a small collection.
This vase has green and soft pink porcelain inlaid into white stoneware clay.
All of my work is hand built in my studio in East Oxford. Before constructing each piece, I colour sections of clay with pigments. These colours are then layered by hand into white clay, to form unique patterns embedded into the work's surface, making each piece a one-off.
Each vase is fired twice at a high temperature. After firing, the outside is polished by hand to create a smooth satin surface. The inside and back is glazed with a lovely matte grey, non-toxic glaze.
Height – 8.8 cm
Width – 12.5 cm
Each piece is made by hand which means that they are all unique. By their nature they may reveal small imperfections which are all part of their handmade character.
It is important to me as a maker to consider the environmental impact of my work. I love that porcelain is a natural material, and make sure to seek out sustainable products for use in the studio. This is an ongoing process and I am always looking for new ways to reduce the impact of my work. When sending out my work, all packaging is plastic -free.
